Santa Monica Mountains, Los Angeles County, CA: California Highway Patrol West Valley division updated information regarding the two-vehicle traffic collision with fatality and injured patients that occurred on Malibu Canyon Road on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at 8:33 p.m.

According to the CHP news release, the deceased victim has been identified as Skylar R. Scripcer, 18, of Laguna Hills, CA, who succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the collision. Scripcer was a front passenger in the Hyundai that was involved in a head-on collision with a BMW. The driver of the BMW is identified as Petros Gharibyan, 21, of Glendale.

CHP stated in the release that a gold 2009 Hyundai Genesis was traveling northbound on Malibu Canyon approaching the intersection with Piuma Road and a gray 2021 BMW M5 was traveling southbound on Malibu Canyon at a high rate of speed. For a reason not yet determined, the BMW crossed the double yellow lines directly in front of the Hyundai’s path of travel. The BMW and Hyundai were involved in a head-on collision.

As a result of the collision, according to CHP, the front passenger identified as Skylar Scripcer succumbed to her injuries while on the scene. The driver of the BMW, the driver of the Hyundai along with four passengers sustained major to moderate injuries as a result of the collision. All were transported to hospitals. CHP also reported that four of the occupants in the Hyundai were 18 years old, and one was 19.

The incident resulted in the closure of all northbound and southbound lanes of Malibu Canyon for approximately six hours. CHP West Valley area office is handling the investigation.
