Valley Glen, Los Angeles, CA: Firefighters discovered the remains of one person while extinguishing flames in a unit within an apartment building located in the Valley Glen neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley early Thursday morning. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the deceased is an adult male in an update just before 3:00 a.m.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the reported fire just before 1:00 a.m., Dec. 8, on the 13800 block of West Oxnard Street where heavy flames were located in an apartment on the first floor of a 24-unit apartment building.

While extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered the remains of one person within the apartment unit involved in fire, according to LAFD. The person has not been identified at this time, and manner of death will be determined by the coroner’s office.

LAFD reported in an update that two dogs were discovered deceased within the apartment.

No other injuries were reported.

Los Angeles Police Department officers also responded to a call for a shooting with possible victims down at the location. No suspect was found.

Key News Network interviewed James who resides with a roommate in the apartment above the location of the fire. James said he and his roommate at first heard one explosion, then another and looked out and saw “a bunch of rings of fire under us” from the apartment below. The roommate rushed downstairs and saw flames coming from the room. At that point they started leaving the building with others.

James said there is a lot of domestic abuse and screaming heard from the tenants below him. He claims he can hear fighting every day in his apartment above and cops have been called multiple times to break up whatever was going on.

The cause of the fire is under investigation as well as the death of the discovered male.
