Los Angeles Police Department officers and Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a solo traffic collision around 5:30 p.m. involving a Toyota Camry into a power pole at the intersection of Wilbur Avenue and Saticoy Street.

Detective Lisset Fuentes with LAPD Valley Traffic Division was at the scene on camera with news media and said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control, veered to the right and went airborne, crashing into a pole.

Fuentes said the female driver died as a result of her injuries, and the male passenger was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for moderate injuries.

Preliminary information indicates the occupants of the vehicle were not wearing their seatbelts, according to Fuentes.

Both occupants of the vehicle were juveniles, but exact ages were not released.

At this point, LAPD has no evidence of another vehicle being involved, however, it does not mean it is not the case, according to Fuentes.

Police are looking for witnesses to talk to about the crash.

The intersection was blocked for an unknown amount of time as LAPD investigated the incident.
