Point Mugu, Ventura County, CA: A suspected vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision Wednesday night in the Point Mugu area of Ventura County was located by police and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
California Highway Patrol Ventura officers responded to calls for a vehicle collision on northbound Pacific Coast Highway just north of Mugu Rock around 10:17 p.m., Dec. 21.
CHP Ventura area Sgt. Micheal Untalan at the scene with Key News Network stated on camera the initial information they had was that a parked vehicle was struck by an errant vehicle, and that one party was non responsive and the second party was seriously injured.
Untalan said what has been determined thus far, is that a vehicle was parked on the shoulder with two parties standing outside of the vehicle also on the shoulder.
“As they were standing outside on the shoulder, a vehicle traveling northbound on PCH swerved onto the shoulder for unknown reason, hit them, and that vehicle fled from the scene,” said Untalan.
The female located on the right shoulder had died at the the scene by the time officers and medical personnel arrived. The male victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for serious injuries, according to CHP.
Multiple CHP units from the Ventura area responded to the scene as well as the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and Oxnard Police Department, said Untalan.
The suspect vehicle was located in Oxnard traveling northbound on Rice Avenue just south of Wooley Road and stopped by officers.
The solo male occupant in the suspect vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The morning commute may be affected on PCH in the area of the incident. Untalan could not give a time when the northbound PCH lanes would be reopened due to the ongoing investigation.
