2 People, 1 Cat Perish in House Fire

Mar Vista, Los Angeles, CA: Two people were found deceased along with a cat after firefighters extinguished a house fire early Wednesday morning, Feb. 8, in the Westside Los Angeles neighborhood of Mar Vista.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a home on the 3500 block of South May Street after receiving an unknown type request for aid (911 hangup) around 2:22 a.m., according to LAFD.

Upon arrival, crews located a one-story home on fire. Additional crews were assigned, and the first arriving 20 firefighters had the flames extinguished by 2:50 a.m., reported LAFD.

Fire personnel searched the premises and discovered two people, one male and one female, had perished in the flames along with a pet cat, according to LAFD. The ages of the victims are unknown at this time.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under active investigation.
