Suspect Allegedly Assaults Officer, Engages in Standoff on Rooftop

Ventura, Ventura County, CA: A Ventura Police officer was investigating a non-injury hit-and-run crash when the suspect vehicle and the officer had some type of contact prompting a pursuit around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9.

During the pursuit, the officer stated the want for the suspect was for assault on a police officer.

The pursuit lasted only a few blocks before the suspect crashed and fled on Wall Street just south of Park Row Avenue in the city of Ventura.

A passenger in the suspect vehicle was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect fled southbound and was located by officers while running and jumping from rooftop to rooftop on Ventura Avenue.

The suspect continued running on rooftops while throwing objects at officers. He eventually hunkered down on the rooftop of a auto repair shop and refused to come down for about two hours.

Eventually, the suspect agreed to come down via a ladder and was taken into custody without further incident.
