Whittier, Los Angeles County, CA: A man is dead and detectives were summoned to the scene of what appeared to be the aftermath of an alleged road rage incident Saturday afternoon.
Los Angeles County Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision in a quiet neighborhood in the city of Whittier at the intersection of Cullen Avenue and Parise Drive shortly after 3:15 p.m., Feb. 11.
Paramedics were advised to stage away from the location for unknown reasons before being advised that they were cleared to enter, and that police were doing CPR on the pedestrian.
Firefighters arrived and quickly declared the pedestrian, a male adult, deceased at scene.
Neighbors reported that a road incident occurred involving the deceased and an Uber driver.
The incident reached the intersection of the scene, where the alleged armed driver exited his car and tried to block the Uber vehicle with his body. At this point, the Uber driver reportedly rammed into the the victim, killing him.
The Uber driver reportedly remained on scene and called 911 to advise what had just transpired and was observed sitting on a nearby curb cooperating with authorities.
Whittier detectives and police were searching a Subaru hatchback at the scene while the area within the neighborhood was cordoned off.
An incident notification posted by the Whittier Police Department Sunday afternoon on their Facebook page stated a handgun was located in the victim’s vehicle and the incident is believed to be a road rage incident according to preliminary investigation.
Both drivers were traveling northbound on Colima Road near Anaconda Street when at some point, the victim displayed a handgun and was followed by the suspect, according to Whittier PD. The victim was later fatally struck by the suspect’s car after he exited his vehicle to confront the suspect.
“The driver who struck the victim was arrested and charged with homicide. The driver has been identified as 29-year-old Jeffrey Flores of Fontana. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family,” said Whittier PD.
The investigation is ongoing.
