Lancaster, Los Angeles County, CA: Deputies detained several people and at least one is in custody after a woman was shot while traveling in a vehicle with her children Thursday afternoon in the city of Lancaster.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lancaster Station deputies and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to Sierra Highway just south of Avenue J for a reported gunshot victim around 12:44 p.m., Feb. 16.
Upon arrival, deputies and fire personnel located a female Black suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her shoulder. The victim was traveling with her two minor children in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
The woman, clearly in distress, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
A witness who declined to be identified, stated the victim was pistol whipped and punched before she was shot in the shoulder.
Deputies received a tip that the suspect fled in a U-Haul truck and was headed northbound on the 14 Freeway toward the community of Rosamond.
Deputies quickly surrounded a house in the 3900 block of Springfield Court in the Rosamond community of Kern County, where several people were detained and at least one suspect taken into custody.
The victim was listed in stable condition at the time of this report.
The circumstances that led to shooting are unknown at this time.
