Historic South-Central, Los Angeles, CA: Firefighters battled a major emergency structure fire early Wednesday morning that engulfed the sixth floor of a Los Angeles County office building located in the Historic South-Central neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The greater alarm fire was reported just before 4:00 a.m., Mar. 8, on the 2600 block of South Grand Avenue where arriving firefighters encountered a six-story office building with heavy fire showing from the top floor.
The massive blaze, formally known as the Adams Fire, was categorized as a major emergency incident and was aggressively fought by 160 LAFD firefighters on scene.
LAFD reported it took less than one hour for firefighters to access, confine and extinguish heavy fire throughout the top floor of the building.
According to LAFD, the pre-1960 concrete structure is owned by the County of Los Angeles and houses administrative offices for several county agencies.
Two LAFD firefighters were treated at the scene for respiratory complaints following smoke inhalation during the firefight, reported the department. No civilian injuries were reported.
Firefighters will remain on the scene to further salvage building contents, assist County of Los Angeles officials and support the still active LAFD investigation into the cause of the fire, LAFD stated in an update at 6:30 a.m.
