Firefighters Face Water Challenge to Douse Structure Blaze

Sylmar, Los Angeles, CA: The lack of fire hydrants in the area of a burning structure posed a challenge for firefighters attempting to quickly douse the flames early Tuesday morning.

The Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County Fire Departments responded to a structure fire along the 14 and 5 Freeway Interchange early Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported around 12:46 a.m., Apr. 4, on the 15000 block of San Fernando Road in the Sylmar neighborhood within the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles.

One building was found well involved in flames when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters had to shuttle water from the nearest hydrant about a quarter mile away due to lack of hydrants in the area.

Gusty winds were seen blowing embers from the fire.

LAFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
