Alleged Catalytic Converter Theft Suspect in Custody After Pursuit Crash

Ventura, Ventura County, CA: One alleged catalytic converter theft suspect is in custody after a brief pursuit ended in a crash and attempted escape on foot from the vehicle along with two other suspects early Friday morning.

California Highway Patrol Ventura officers spotted a black Honda sedan matching the description of a vehicle that was identified during the commission of catalytic converter thefts out of Santa Barbara County.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle when it took off at high speeds. A brief pursuit followed and terminated around 4:00 a.m., May 12, in a crash up an embankment at the Johnson Drive off-ramp intersection from southbound US-101 in the city of Ventura.

Three subjects fled from the vehicle; one was taken into custody without further incident. A male and a female are currently outstanding.

Officers found at least five catalytic converters as well as cutting tools and a jack in the trunk of the vehicle.
