The Kern County Fire Department responded to the 5800 block of Krebs Road in the city of Bakersfield just after 1:00 p.m., May 17, for reports of a potential grass fire.

While units were responding, 911 calls were received stating that a structure was also on fire in the area of the grass fire. The additional information regarding the incident prompted the response of three additional engines and two ladder trucks, according to Fire Engineer Nathan Goossens with KCFD interviewed at the scene by Key News Network.

Upon arrival, units found a structure fully involved in flames as well as the ground’s field on fire. The dry grass and windy conditions propelled the fire to move at a rapid rate of spread, according to Goossens.

Four additional structures were immediately threatened by the fire, said Goossens. Firefighters went to work quickly to clear the structures of any possible occupants – no occupants were inside the structures – and protect the additional structures from damage.

No injuries were reported.
