Alleged Arson Suspect Detained for Setting Fires Along 101 Freeway

HOLLYWOOD HILLS, LOS ANGELES, June 22 (KNN) – A man suspected of lighting trees and grass on fire along the 101 Freeway near Highland Avenue was taken into custody early Thursday morning.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported grass fire just after 1 a.m. along the 101 southbound just north of the Mulholland Bridge.

LAFD crews arrived at the specific location of the fire, determined to be the 2600 block East Cahuenga Boulevard in the Hollywood Hills area, and found approximately four spots on fire with a possible arson suspect heading southbound along the side of the freeway.

LAFD firefighters were able to detain the possible suspect and keep him at the location until Los Angeles Police Department officers and California Highway Patrol arrived.

The man was taken into custody for suspicion of arson by LAPD’s North Hollywood Division officers.

A torch style lighter was recovered.
