3 Marines Identified as Victims of Fatal I-5 Crash in Downey

DOWNEY, CA, June 26 (KNN) — Three of the four victims killed in a solo vehicle crash on the I-5 Freeway early Saturday morning have been identified on Monday.

The Downey Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to the reported crash around 2:38 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway, just west of the 605 Freeway in the city of Downey, and located one vehicle with major damage and two bodies that appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle.

Firefighters pronounced a total of four victims deceased at the scene of the violent crash which split the vehicle in half.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office on Monday identified three of the fours victims killed as Daniel Nichols, 26, Joshua Moore Jr., 27, and Rodrigo Zemeno Gomez, 21. The name of the fourth victim has not been released at this time.

KCAL reported three of the victims were Marines based at Camp Pendelton, citing information from base officials.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
