South Los Angeles Fatal Shooting of Suspect Involves LAPD

MANCHESTER SQUARE, LOS ANGELES, June 28 (KNN) — Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Western in the Manchester Square neighborhood within South Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department was involved in a fatal shooting of a suspect.

Shell casings and a suspect vehicle were observed at the scene about 50-feet away from the deceased.

According to the LAPD, officers were conducting a traffic stop for failure to stop for a red light in the area of Western and Florence when officers heard and saw a male fire several shots. Officers returned fire and struck a male Black suspect.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene, according to the LAPD.

During the shooting incident, officers discovered an illegal marijuana dispensary. Multiple people were directed out of the dispensary just in front of where the suspect was shot. People were observed with their hands behind their heads, walking backwards toward officers before being taken into custody.

Approximately six individuals were detained and transported to 77th Station, according to the LAPD.

A firearm was recovered at the scene of the shooting and will be booked as evidence, the LAPD reported. The suspect’s intended target is not known at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
