VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES, June 29 (KNN) — A 5-year-old boy and a woman were both killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision Thursday night that also left four patients hospitalized.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department was dispatched just after 9:30 p.m. for a traffic collision with multiple victims injured in the 6400 block of North Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported a two-vehicle collision with a total of six patients. A female in her 60s was determined deceased at the scene and a child was reported to be in grave condition, according to the LAFD.
Two females, both in their 20s, and two males – one approximately 30 years old, and the other approximately 22 years old – were all transported in ‘at least’ serious condition, according to initial reports at the time of the incident from the LAFD.
Around 1:30 a.m., Lt. Letisia Ruiz with LAPD Media Relations spoke to reporters at the scene regarding an update on the investigation into the fatal traffic collision. According to Ruiz, the investigation has revealed that a white Honda Accord traveling northbound on Woodley Avenue from Victory Boulevard, crossed over to the southbound lane on Woodley and collided with a gray Honda Civic.
In the white Honda Accord, there were two passengers. The driver and passenger in that vehicle were both transported to a local hospital with the driver in critical condition, said Ruiz.
In the second vehicle, a gray Honda Civic, there were four passengers; a 60-year-old passenger was determined deceased at the scene and a 5-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The additional two occupants of that vehicle – a male and female Hispanic – were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries, reported Ruiz.
Detectives are still investigating the collision and conducting interviews.
When Ruiz was asked by Key News Network if the child was in a safety restraint, she said the child appeared to be. Ruiz said it was still too early in the investigation to determine if all passengers were wearing seatbelts.
There were no further details regarding the fatal crash at this time.
