Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were dispatched shortly before 1:30 a.m. to a two-story commercial building with smoke showing on the 4100 block of South Broadway Street in the neighborhood of Historic South Central Los Angeles.

By 1:50 a.m., the fire was reported to be at Greater Alarm status with heavy fire through the roof and firefighters transitioning to defensive mode, according to the LAFD.

Firefighters were making progress, but heavy fire remained a challenge and the building showed visible signs of potential structural collapse in a portion of the building, reported the LAFD.

The RS3 robotic firefighting vehicle was prepared for deployment to help firefighters gain safe entry into the building to target portions of the interior.

Over 80 firefighters were on the scene, according to the LAFD. The fire was extinguished in one hour and 33 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The LADWP was called to the scene for high tension wires down, and the LAFD Arson investigators were due to arrive per protocol for a fire this size.
