Driver of Truck Flees After Shearing Hydrant in Crash

PORTER RANCH, CA, July 1 (KNN) — The driver of a pickup truck slammed into a hydrant early Saturday morning, then fled the scene leaving a badly damaged truck behind and a hydrant laying on its side as water gushed skyward and flooded the street.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division units responded to a call of a truck versus fire hydrant around 1:21 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Tampa and Wilbur Avenues in Porter Ranch.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews also responded to the location to shut the water off which took approximately 15 minutes while water from the sheared hydrant soaked the firefighters.

The driver of the truck fled the scene of the crashed vehicle and gushing hydrant prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

There are no further details at this time.
