Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to a water main break in an alleyway behind a residence in the 300 block of East Grand Boulevard early Thursday morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a ruptured water main spraying water approximately 60 feet into the air.

Rocks and other debris were heard being launched into the air and falling onto two homes north of the main break.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power arrived and successfully shut down the main.

Key News Network spoke with a resident on camera impacted by the flooding from the broken main. Jennifer told KNN she was awake when she heard the sound and thought perhaps someone was “dragging something” or it was possibly a sudden thunderstorm. She described it as a “giant geyser” when she saw the water after she went outside behind her home. Jennifer said there was a pothole back there before [the main break].
