MISSION HILLS, LOS ANGELES, July 14 (KNN) — Firefighters quickly contained a grass fire on the 5 Freeway that was ignited by a nearby rubbish fire early Friday afternoon.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. Friday for reports of a rubbish fire on the side of the northbound 5 Freeway near the 118 Freeway Interchange in Mission Hills.
Fire spread to the nearby grass and consumed approximately 1.5 acres, according to the LAFD. The area is fully contained by the surrounding roads and there were no structures or personal property threatened.
Shortly before 1 p.m., LAFD reported the fire was extinguished. It took 22 firefighters 43 minutes to locate and establish a water supply to the freeway location, and extinguish the burning dry grass on the shoulder at the interchange, stated the LAFD.
No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
