Suspected DUI Driver Slams Into Home in Rossmoor

ROSSMOOR, CA, July 19 (KNN) — A homeowner received a rude awakening when a DUI driver slammed into his house early Wednesday morning.

California Highway Patrol’s Westminster officers and Orange County firefighters received reports shortly before 2 a.m. of a solo vehicle crash into a house in a quiet neighborhood located in the 2600 block of Salmon Drive in Rossmoor.

Assisting Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived to find a white older model Toyota 4 Runner that had lost control and collided into the side of the home.

The solo occupant male driver was able to exit the vehicle and appeared to be under the influence.

CHP officers conducted a field sobriety test and placed the driver under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The homeowner and a female inside the home, along with their dog, were uninjured. The vehicle managed to partially enter into a bedroom that was unoccupied at the time.

The homeowner, seen outside the residence wrapped in a red bath robe, expressed shock over the incident that abruptly awakened him as he spoke briefly with Key News Network at the scene.

The KNN video journalist was then allowed access by the homeowner to capture on video the interior damage to the bedroom.

The damage to the building appeared minimal, however, federal building and safety officials were notified of the incident.

The CHP Westminster Office will be continuing the investigation into the incident.
