Around 3 a.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to a reported auto rollover on the eastbound lanes of the 118 Freeway, just east of the Laurel Canyon off-ramp in Pacoima.

According to authorities, the incident involved a collision between a pickup truck and a sports car. One male, age unidentified, was found trapped inside the wrecked sports car and was determined to be unresponsive and not breathing.

The Los Angeles Fire Department utilized hydraulic tools to extricate the victim from the severely damaged vehicle. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the victim was beyond medical help and pronounced deceased at the scene.

In response to the crash, the California Highway Patrol closed the eastbound 118 Freeway at the 5 Freeway interchange, diverting all traffic onto the 5 Freeway.

The duration of the investigation and its impact on traffic flow remain unknown at this time.
