Firefighters Continue to Battle ‘Bonny Fire’ in Riverside County

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA, July 28 (KNN) — Firefighters continue their second night of battling the 2,000 acre “Bonny Fire” located off the 45000 block of Bonny Lane near Aguanga in Riverside County which is currently burning eastward toward San Diego County.

CAL Fire Riverside with additional resources from across the state, continued to fight flames earlier Friday with large air tankers and water dropping helicopters.

By the time video footage was captured by KNN around 9 p.m., weather conditions had improved, allowing firefighters to conduct backburn operations – meaning fighting fire with fire – to protect homes nestled along Gully View Drive and Rock Canyon Road.

They utilized flare guns and pyrotechnics to achieve burning unspent fuel in order to protect the homes against potential future weather conditions that may otherwise cause flames to threaten them.

Evacuations for much of the area remain in place.
