Firefighters Battle Brush Fire in Steep Terrain in Griffith Park

GRIFFITH PARK, LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (KNN) — The Los Angeles Fire Department quickly contained a brush fire burning on a hillside Sunday in Griffith Park.

LAFD personnel was dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. with ground and air response to a one-half acre medium density brush fire burning uphill in steep terrain on the 5400 block of West Zoo Drive, reported the LAFD. There were no winds, and no structures immediately threatened.

The air and ground support were successful in containing the fire shortly after 6:30 p.m. with 50 firefighters on the scene.

Around 7:10 p.m., LAFD reported the fire was confined to approximately three acres. LAFD ground crews were to be joined by two Los Angeles County Fire Department hand crews in completing full extinguishment of the fire until at least 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
