Fatal Traffic Collision Involving Semi Truck, Female Pedestrian Shuts Down 101 Freeway

ECHO PARK, LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (KNN) — A female pedestrian was struck and killed by semi truck traveling on the 101 Freeway early Tuesday morning.

California Highway Patrol Central Los Angeles units responded to a call around 3:45 a.m. from a semi truck driver reporting he had struck a female on the southbound 101 Freeway just north of Alvarado Street in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles.

The female was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter/paramedics.

CHP Sgt. Jensen said preliminary information indicates the female was possibly outside a vehicle that had broken down on the freeway.

For unknown reasons the gal walked into the traffic lanes and was struck, said Jensen, interviewed on camera at the scene by Key News Network.

The southbound 101 Freeway was shut down at Silver Lake Boulevard at the time of this report for an unknown duration for the investigation.

There is no further information at this time.
