HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 (KNN) — A wrong-way driver slammed into a big rig prompting the closure of the northbound 101 Freeway through Hollywood Tuesday night.
The collision occurred on the northbound 101 just south of Sunset Boulevard at approximately 9:34 p.m.
A white compact sedan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it impacted a tractor trailer in the slow lane.
The big rig lost its front right wheel and traveled across all lanes impacting the center divider.
The wrong way driver appeared to be a female solo occupant. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the patient to a local area hospital in unknown condition.
A US Marine also stopped to help at the crash site and possibly pulled the wrong way driver from their wrecked vehicle.
The freeway was closed in the area for an unknown amount of time.
