The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 7700 block of West Hollywood Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday

LAFD crews arrived at the location and found a two-story abandoned apartment building with heavy fire in multiple units. Crews worked quickly to establish hand lines and get water on the fire.

At one point, crews transitioned to a defensive firefight. After making access to the second floor, crews knocked down the bulk of the flames, and the fire department declared the fire extinguished in less than 30 minutes with 35 firefighters at the scene.

Captain Cody Weireter, a PIO for the Los Angeles Fire Department, spoke on camera at the scene and said there had been previous fires at the same location.

As firefighters began to make their way inside the building, a firefighter conducting a primary search for victims fell through the floor. The firefighter’s injury was deemed non-life-threatening, according to Weireter. The search for victims came up negative

Arson investigators were also requested at the incident at 2:37 a.m. for the ongoing investigation.
