Lancaster, Los Angeles County, CA: An active shooter hoax call to a Lancaster middle school prompted a sheriff’s department response and a school-wide lockdown.
At approximately 11:49 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, a 911 call was placed to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lancaster Station regarding an active shooter at New Vista Middle School located in the 700 block of East Avenue K in the city of Lancaster.
The school was placed on lockdown immediately after the call and numerous marked and unmarked Lancaster deputies responded to the school and quickly made entry.
According to some witnesses on scene, no shots were heard and there did not appear to be any injuries reported.
It was a hoax and not considered an active shooter situation, according to one deputy at the scene.
Parents were advised to proceed away from the front of the school to an alternate location to pick up their students.
At around 12:25 p.m., deputies started to break down the containment around the school.
It is unknown who placed the 911 call. No further details are available at this time.
