MARINA DEL REY, Calif., Apr. 14 (KNN) — A suspected shooter is in custody after allegedly firing multiple rounds from the rooftop of a Marina del Rey apartment building Saturday night.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Police Department responded to an active shooter call around 10:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Via Marina.
Arriving deputies closed surrounding streets and many witnesses said they were evacuated from their nearby buildings or were told to shelter in place.
Dozens of shots were heard coming from the rooftop of the Peal apartment building, according to witnesses.
Jacob, a witness who spoke to Key News Network on-camera at the scene, said he was driving home from Downtown Los Angeles when he received a call from his girlfriend who said she had heard a bunch of gunshots. Jacob told his girlfriend that it was probably just fireworks – “no big deal.”
Then as Jacob arrived in the area – he lives in the apartment building next door to his girlfriend – he saw emergency response vehicles at the scene and heard around two dozen gunshots.
Jacob left the area to wait for things to calm down and saw three Bearcats go by along with four to five fire engines. It has been an “eventful night for quiet little Marina del Rey,” he said.
The suspected shooter was ultimately taken into custody by authorities and no injuries were reported.
