According to Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton with the Los Angeles Police Department Operations-Valley Bureau at a news conference Tuesday night, LAPD Foothill Division officers responded to a call around 7:45 p.m. of grand theft auto suspects. Upon arriving at the location, officers identified a stolen vehicle and began to follow the vehicle. The officers observed multiple suspects inside the vehicle and requested additional units for an attempt to pull over the vehicle.

As officers followed the stolen vehicle, the vehicle began to “take evasive maneuvers”and tried to get away from the officers, said Hamilton. A pursuit was then initiated in the 1000 block of North Alvarado Street in the Echo Park neighborhood of Central Los Angeles.

The stolen truck then entered Panorama City and was speeding westbound approaching Woodman Avenue toward Lanark when it struck a vehicle traveling northbound on Woodman fatally injuring the driver and passenger in a Honda Civic.

Following the collision, the driver of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee from the scene and was quickly apprehended by Foothill Division officers that were involved in the pursuit, according to Hamilton.

There was use of force on the driver of the stolen vehicle, not the passenger, Hamilton reported. The driver sustained injuries from the use of force and was treated at a local hospital for “minor injuries.”

The suspect that was a passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody without incident after a brief foot pursuit. Both suspects were transported to local hospitals in stable condition, reported Hamilton.

The suspects will be transported for booking following their medical treatment, said Hamilton.

LAPD reported one of the victims in the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the other victim died on the way to the hospital.

The ages and genders of the adult victims were not immediately released.
