Riverside County firefighters responded to reports of an ATV rider who lost control of his vehicle around 6 p.m. in the hills off Armstrong Road adjacent to the 6600 block of Gillam Street in the city of Riverside.

It took rescue personnel over 30 minutes to finally locate the victim, who had flipped his ATV and was down the side of a steep hill.

The victim was able to help rescuers locate him via cell phone. Firefighters had to access the hill from a nearby residence’s backyard.

Rescue personnel made a steep hike to reach the victim who was unable to get off the hill due to his injuries. They had to carry the man down a steep incline in a rescue basket.

Due to the man’s weight and other factors, they were unable to use a helicopter to remove him from the hills.

Rescue personnel had a difficult time safely bringing him down from the hills. The man was treated and transported to a local area hospital in an unknown condition.

Family members arrived on the scene worried about their loved one.
