Basketball Court Shootout Leaves 1 Wounded in Palmdale

PALMDALE, Calif., Mar. 22 (KNN) — A shootout on a basketball court at a city park in Palmdale Friday afternoon left one person wounded.

Palmdale deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded to Marie Kerr Park in the 39700 block of 30th Street West around 12:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Multiple calls were received regarding the incident from witnesses.

At least three people were seen shooting at each other on the basketball court of the city park.

Lt. Oscar Martinez, Watch Commander with the sheriff’s Palmdale Station said that two different groups got into an argument when shots were fired. The exact number of people involved in the shooting is unclear at this time.

One person reportedly self-transported to a local area hospital suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Martinez said the victim’s condition was non-life-threatening.

Deputies were observed searching the area for bullet casings.

Damage from the shooting included a vehicle that was parked in a shopping center across the street and unoccupied by its owner, and a Subway fast food restaurant with a bullet hole observed in the door as seen in Key News Network video from the location.

The incident is currently under investigation and no further details were readily available.
