Sylmar, Los Angeles, CA: California Highway Patrol officers from Castaic were dispatched Saturday, Aug. 6, at 11:21 p.m. to the northbound truck route I-5 Freeway just south of the 14 Freeway in Sylmar due to a big rig blocking two lanes of traffic with first unit arriving at 11:26 p.m.
According to CHP, the driver stopped on the right shoulder to check on his brakes and the big rig rolled backwards coming to a stop partially into an embankment.
The big rig was empty, weighing 30,000 lbs, and CHP requested a heavy duty tow truck to remove the big rig. CHP also requested Caltrans to shut down the freeway from the 210 to the transition road at I-5 for the tow truck driver to hook the trailer.
