The call for help was placed around 12:50 a.m., Feb. 1, where construction crews advised that a worker came into contact with high voltage wires on the 22 Freeway at Main Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a solo male in a boom lift 20 feet in the air, tangled in wires.

The man inside the boom, however, was alert and coherent.

Firefighters requested additional resources and Edison crews to the scene to assist.

Around 1:15 a.m., Edison crews de-energized the power lines and untangled the boom from the wires.

Crews were able to safely lower the man back down to the ground. The area had already been cordoned off for a construction project, so traffic remained flowing as crews operated within the closure.

The man was uninjured and declined any medical treatment.

Per California Highway Patrol Santa Ana officers, the incident is being referred to Cal/OSHA – the State of California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

The worker appeared to be a contract employee and not a CalTrans official.
