Boyle Heights Shooting Involves LAPD, Armed Man in Vehicle; Investigation Underway

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES, Apr. 1 (KNN) — An investigation is underway into a shooting in Boyle Heights Sunday night involving the Los Angeles Police Department and a man found armed with a gun inside a vehicle.

Around 10:20 p.m., LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division patrol officers were in the area of 1st Street and Vincent Fernandez Street when they saw a vehicle stopped in the middle of Fernandez Street with doors open. Officers exited their vehicle to investigate when they saw a suspect described as a male in his 20s, armed with a handgun. An officer-involved shooting then occurred, according to the LAPD’s preliminary investigation.

The LAPD said the suspect who was not struck by gunfire, ran from officers and was captured after a short foot pursuit.

“The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene and will be booked as evidence. No officers or community members were injured during this incident,” stated the LAPD.

The area of 1st Street from Boyle to State Street will be closed for several hours for the investigation. The LAPD is asking motorists to use alternate routes.

There is currently no additional information from the ingoing investigation.
