Paramedics were assessing patients outside the building of HASA Professional Services located on the 23000 block of Drayton Street in the Saugus neighborhood within the city of Santa Clarita.

Additional ambulances and engines were requested for what appeared to be a chemical exposure of reportedly bleach and butyric acid. The streets were blocked off until around 8:10 a.m. when all the patients were treated.

Fire Specialist Ryan Greenup with the LACoFD, said the fire department responded to a 911 hang up at approximately 5:30 a.m. at the location. First arriving units quickly realized a hazardous materials response was needed. At that point, the incident was upgraded to a hazmat response.

Approximately 25 firefighters responded, said Greenup, and 17 people were treated with seven transported to a local hospital.

This is still an ongoing investigation and the incident will be turned over to Los Angeles County Fire Department Health Hazmat, said Greenup.
