A CHP South Los Angeles patrol unit was in the area of Alondra Boulevard and Aprilia Avenue in the city of Compton when they reported shots fired shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the CHP, the incident unfolded at approximately 11:20 p.m. when two CHP officers were on routine patrol when they observed a white Kia Optima traveling eastbound on Alondra Boulevard at Main Street at a high rate of speed. The officers initiated an enforcement stop and the suspect driver stopped the Kia on Maple Avenue, south of Alondra Boulevard.

During the traffic stop, and while the officers were out of their patrol vehicle, the suspect proceeded to turn the Kia around and accelerated toward the two officers, causing one officer to fall on his back as he attempted to move out of the Kia’s way. As a result, an officer-involved shooting occurred at approximately 11:32 p.m., stated the CHP in a news release of the incident.

Immediately after the shooting, the suspect in the Kia fled eastbound on Alondra Boulevard from Maple Street. The officers attempted to apprehend the Kia, but lost sight of the vehicle.

Around 11:45 p.m., the Kia was located abandoned on Cypress Avenue just west of Aprilia Avenue. The suspect has not been located, reported the CHP.

The vehicle was observed with several bullet holes in the windshield as well as collision damage.

No officers were reported injured during the incident. It is unknown if the suspect driver was injured.
