The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. in the 600 block of Willow Avenue where Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Industry Station deputies responded for a family disturbance call, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau (SIB).

Arriving deputies contacted the suspect who was outside the residence arguing with family members.

“As deputies attempted to detain the suspect, he armed himself with a metal paint roller which he used as a weapon,” stated the SIB.

The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, 40-45 years of age, according to the SIB.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene, treated the suspect and then transported him to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The deputy was treated for his injuries at the scene. No one else was reported injured during the incident, according to the SIB.

Multiple investigations are underway regarding this incident per LASD protocol when a deputy-involved shooting occurs.
