Downey Bar Shooting Leaves 1 Wounded, Suspect in Custody

DOWNEY, CA, Oct. 6 (KNN) — A man was wounded after shots rang out inside a bar in the city of Downey late Thursday night.

Downey Police Department officers responded to a “shots fired” call at the Glen Bar located on the 7300 block of Stewart and Gray Road & Old River School Road, shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to the Downey PD.

Officers along with the Downey Fire Department found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound at the location.

The bar was open for business and crowded at the time of the shooting.

The gunshot victim, identified as a 31-year-old male, was transported by paramedics to a local area hospital where he is listed in stable condition, reported the Downey PD in a news release posted Friday afternoon on their Facebook page.

“Witnesses advised two males were in an argument and during the argument, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim one time. Security officers detained the suspect until officers arrived on scene,” stated the Downey PD in the release.

Downey PD has identified the suspect as Downey resident, 44-year-old Rafael Figueroa. He was apprehended without incident and booked for attempted homicide.

A second male adult was also transported to a nearby hospital with an unknown head injury not sustained by gunfire, according to information at the scene at the time of the incident.
