MISSION HILLS, LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 (KNN) — A wrecked car and a fatally injured driver landed in the backyard of a Mission Hills home after the vehicle flew off the 118 Freeway late Monday night.
The Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vehicle that left the freeway shortly after 11 p.m. and crashed into a residential backyard in the 10700 block of North Burnet Avenue (intersection of the 118 and 5 freeways).
When first responders arrived, they found a man who had been ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Providence Holy Cross Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash, according to the CHP in a news release of the incident. The deceased was the driver of the vehicle and has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
The CHP stated in the release that the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2015 BMW was traveling eastbound on the 118 Freeway before it left the roadway to the southeast. During the crash, the driver was ejected from the BMW and both the driver and the BMW came to rest in the backyard of a private residence.
