COVINA, Calif., May 11 (KNN) — The search for a motorcyclist is underway after the shooting death of the driver of a Camaro on the 10 Freeway overnight in the city of Covina.
The freeway shooting happened around 2:16 a.m. Saturday, on the eastbound 10 Freeway just west of the Via Verde Street exit, according to Sgt. Dan Keene with the California Highway Patrol’s Baldwin Park area office.
The shooting occurred between a motorcycle and a white Camaro, said Keene who held an early morning media briefing regarding the incident. The white Camaro was traveling on the freeway when the motorcyclist fired multiple shots at the vehicle for an unknown reason, which is under investigation at this time, according to Keene.
The driver of the Camaro, a male Hispanic in his early 20s, was struck by one of the rounds, said Keene. The passenger in the vehicle was not struck by any of the rounds.
“After the shooting, the victim steered the car to the right shoulder and called 911,” said Keene. “Within seven minutes, the CHP Baldwin Park area arrived on scene and began applying medical aid to the driver of the vehicle.”
The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene and declared the driver deceased as a result of their severe injury.
At this time, the incident is still an active investigation. However, Keene added that the motorcycle involved was a black Harley-Davidson with the rider wearing a black helmet and all black clothing.
