Driver Hospitalized After High-Speed Crash into Back of Semi

Bakersfield, Kern County, CA: A vehicle slammed into the back of a semi truck Thursday night, Feb. 9, trapping the injured driver and snarling traffic on the 99 Freeway.

Bakersfield Fire Department responded to an 8:43 p.m. call for a vehicle vs semi truck as an expanded traffic collision with one occupant trapped inside.

Once on scene, firefighters extricated the victim from the vehicle. The patient was transported with major injuries to a local hospital.

The traffic collision occurred on 99 northbound south of Panama. Traffic was stopped on all northbound lanes for an unknown amount of time as officers investigated the scene of the crash and had the scattered collision debris and destroyed vehicle cleared from the roadway.

California Highway Patrol was on scene and is handling the investigation.
