La Puente, Los Angeles County, CA: A high-speed crash into a parked box truck left one person deceased at the scene early Thursday morning in the city of La Puente.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Industry Station deputies and California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park officers along with Los Angeles County Fire Department received multiple 911 calls just before 3:00 a.m., Dec. 29, regarding a traffic collision on the 15800 block of Cadwell Street.
Once officers and firefighters arrived on scene, they located a major traffic collision involving an overturned box truck and a black vehicle in a driveway with one person still inside unresponsive.
Firefighters pronounced the driver inside the black vehicle dead at the scene.
The box truck was parked across the street from the reported address and was struck by the black vehicle, causing the box truck to overturn on its side from the impact.
The driver reportedly bottomed out at the intersection of Cadwell Street and Greycliff Avenue at high speeds.
It is currently unknown if the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash.
Key News Network spoke to neighbor Guadalupe at the scene who was awakened by a sound of distant screeching from brakes and then a loud noise that jarred her completely awake. Her roommate had alerted her to the accident. Guadalupe then got dressed and went outside to find others, presumed to be neighbors, saying “call 911.”
Guadalupe said the truck belongs to her neighbors who use the vehicle as a clean up truck and haul debris. The truck is usually parked across the street from where Guadalupe resides.
CHP is handling the investigation into the fatal traffic collision.
