ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, Calif., Mar. 11 (KNN) — A vehicle left the roadway and plunged into a steep canyon hillside in the Angeles National Forest overnight trapping the driver. An occupant of the vehicle managed to make it up to the top of the hillside and wave down a passing motorist for help.
The California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel along with Urban Search and Rescue, responded to the reported traffic collision around 1 a.m. at Glendora Mountain Road with a vehicle over the side at mile marker 6.9
Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed there was a vehicle over the side approximately 200 feet down in heavy vegetation, reported LACoFD Battalion Chief Cabrera at the scene.
The occupant from the vehicle who made it to the roadway was evaluated by fire department personnel at the scene and appeared to have minor injuries, said Cabrera. The patient was transported to an area hospital. The other patient, presumed to be the driver, was trapped inside the vehicle over the side.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Chopper 11 responded to the scene and assisted with the location of the vehicle and rescue.
After about an hour, the trapped victim inside the vehicle was freed by firefighters and airlifted out of the canyon. The patient’s condition was not immediately known.
The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
