California Highway Patrol officers were called to the northbound I-710 to westbound CA-91 Freeway transition road regarding a vehicle stopped in lanes of traffic around 2:00 a.m.

Officers with the CHP South Los Angeles Division arrived at the location and found a female adult in an SUV with the vehicle still in drive, stopped and asleep behind the wheel.

Officers located an opened beer still in her hands and positioned a patrol car in front of her Jeep to keep it from rolling away when she was awakened by officers.

When officers detained the female, they found a 1-month-old infant in the backseat in a baby carrier.

Officers transported all parties off the freeway at Long Beach Boulevard in the city of Long Beach and continued their investigation where the female appeared to fail field sobriety tests.

She ultimately blew over the limit, according to an official source on scene.

The baby was transferred into a patrol car and the mother was arrested and placed into another patrol vehicle.

Officers reunited the baby with its grandparents for now, however, the case will be referred to Child Protective Services due to the child endangerment aspect of the case.
