End of Pursuit Involves Crash Into Hydrant, Officer Struck by Vehicle

SUN VALLEY, LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 (KNN) — A Los Angeles Police Department officer was injured after being struck by an unrelated vehicle during a pursuit in the San Fernando Valley Friday afternoon.

LAPD Foothill Division officers were in pursuit of a stolen dark colored pickup truck on city streets and at one point, the I-5 Freeway.

The pursuit came to an end around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cohasset Street and North Hollywood Way in Sun Valley when the suspect lost control and hit a fire hydrant.

One of the pursuing officers was struck by a passing vehicle shortly after the suspect crashed. LAPD officers requested a backup for the injured officer.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the officer to a local area hospital in stable condition suffering from minor scrapes and bruises.

A suspect was taken into custody at approximately 5:45 p.m.

At the time of this report, LAFD was still attempting to shut off the water flow from the hydrant.
