Los Angeles, CA: A high-speed solo crash ripped apart a vehicle leaving one person dead at the scene, and one person with major injuries on the Northbound 110 Freeway Friday morning, Feb. 25, 2022.

Two occupants were in the vehicle when it collided with a guard rail, then a metal post just south of Stadium Way at around 2:00 a.m., according to Sergeant Andre Herrarte with California Highway Patrol Central Los Angeles area office who was interviewed at the scene by Key News Network. Debris was scattered over the roadway across freeway lanes.

One person was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to County hospital with major injuries, and the other person sustained fatal injuries, Herrarte said at the scene. He added both parties were male, around 30 years old.

The vehicle, identified by CHP as a Volkswagon, was severely destroyed in the collision with the engine projected approximately 300 feet north of where the vehicle was located.

Herrarte said preliminary investigation points to speed as a factor in the collision and an investigation into whether alcohol was also a factor. CHP noticed beer cans were present in the vehicle.

Two of three lanes were closed for around two hours while CHP investigated and cleared the roadway.
