The investigation is ongoing. However, Captain Brian Wendling, area commanding officer of West Valley, gave a briefing on camera to news media.

Wendling said an off-duty, sworn member of the Beverly Hills Police Department was with a companion at approximately 8:15 p.m., when they came upon what they believed to be a fight in progress in the area of Roscoe Boulevard and the 405 Freeway.

The off-duty officer stopped and exited his vehicle where there were two people fighting. One was armed with a pipe, the other was armed with a handgun, according to Wendling.

Wendling said, “We do not have all the facts at this point, but there was an officer involved shooting that occurred.”

One of the people that was there that was in possession of the handgun was struck by gunfire and is deceased, said Wendling. The police have everybody that was at scene that was involved; there’s no outstanding danger to the public at this time.
