Fatal Shooting Investigation Underway in Monrovia

MONROVIA, Calif., June 4 (KNN) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Monrovia Police Department are currently investigating a shooting that left one man dead in the city of Monrovia Sunday night.

Monrovia police officers responded to the 700 block of Duarte Road at approximately 9:23 p.m. Sunday, to investigate the shooting of an adult male.

The call for service indicated that there was a gunshot victim at the location, said the sheriff’s department in a statement. The Monrovia Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

According to the LASD, investigators learned there was a disturbance between several individuals. During the disturbance, the victim was shot in the upper torso. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers. Several witnesses at the scene were interviewed.

The suspect had reportedly fled into a riverbed armed with a handgun after the shooting, according to initial reports. Multiple agencies responded to assist Monrovia PD in the search for the suspect including the California Highway Patrol. A SWAT team was also called to respond as seen in Key News Network video from the location.

There have been no further updates since Monday morning from the LASD. The investigation is ongoing.
