Moreno Valley, Riverside County, CA: A man was found fatally shot lying on the 215 Freeway late Saturday night, Dec. 31, 2022, in the city of Moreno Valley.

California Highway Patrol received a call around 10:35 p.m. regarding a hit-and-run collision on the southbound 215 Freeway.

CHP also received calls of shots fired in the same location, and a victim down on the freeway not moving.

Upon arrival, witnesses told CHP officers that a vehicle shot at a tow truck driver. Officers found the body next to the driver side of the tow truck and started CPR until Cal Fire arrived, however, the victim did not respond to lifesaving measures and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

CHP was investigating the scene and had the freeway closed for an unknown period of time.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown at this time and are still under investigation.
